A convenient order starts before payment
A good online order is more than an attractive menu and a “Pay” button. Before confirming, a guest wants to know whether delivery is available to their address, when an order can be collected and what will happen after payment. That is why we develop gala.ee as the link between the guest's choice and the real work of the Gala Sushi team.
You can build a basket at your own pace, choose pickup or delivery and select a suitable time. Creating an account is optional: contact details are enough to place an order, and its status can later be opened from the link in the confirmation email.
Why one “20-minute” answer is not enough
One small roll and a large set do not require the same amount of work. The wait is also affected by orders the team has already accepted and by pre-orders promised for a specific time. A fixed number shown for every basket and every level of demand can therefore create the wrong expectation.
When “As soon as possible” is available, gala.ee shows an estimated range for the current basket. The estimate considers what is in that basket and the work that has already been confirmed. It is deliberately a range, not a stopwatch: preparing food and travelling to the guest are real processes that can change.
If ordering ahead is more convenient, the site offers available time windows. A time is not based on opening hours alone; it also depends on whether the selected basket can realistically be prepared by then.
What goes into the time estimate
- The actual basket. Dishes and quantities matter, not only the total price.
- Already confirmed work. The system considers orders the team has already accepted.
- Orders for a specific time. Pre-orders remain part of the kitchen's planned workload instead of disappearing into the background.
- How the order is received. Pickup needs a ready-for-collection time; delivery covers the full journey to the door.
If the basket or fulfilment method changes, the site refreshes the time estimate as well. The selected option is checked again before final confirmation. If the situation has changed, the system asks for a new time rather than accepting a promise the kitchen can no longer meet.
How an order moves through the system
- The guest selects real menu items and any relevant options.
- Pickup or delivery determines which time needs to be estimated.
- The site offers the nearest feasible option or specific available windows.
- Once confirmed, the basket and promised time enter one shared workflow for the team.
- Later stages appear for the guest only after the corresponding event has actually been confirmed.
Showing only what actually happened
A polished progress bar is not useful when its stages are disconnected from real actions. Gala's order page therefore shows confirmed events rather than invented activity.
For pickup, the main stages are “Received”, “Accepted”, “Ready” and “Collected”. For delivery, a prepared order then moves through waiting for a courier, handoff, the journey to the guest and completed delivery. Important changes appear on the order page and, when appropriate, by email.
The pickup view also includes the promised time, address and current collection instruction. This removes the need to call the café simply to check whether an order arrived or where to collect it.
One process for the guest and the team
The website, order-status page and the team's work screens follow the same event sequence. Staff can see the basket and the time promised to the guest, while the website receives confirmed changes from that same workflow.
This matters most during busy periods. The system's purpose is not to make food cook magically faster. Its job is to align expectations: avoid offering a time that is too early, keep pre-orders visible and never describe a delivery as complete before it has actually been completed.
Technology that does not demand attention
Good restaurant technology should not make a guest learn how it works. Ideally, the guest sees only the result: a current menu, a clear basket, a suitable time and an honest order status.
When the restaurant is open, very busy, accepting pre-orders only or temporarily unable to offer “As soon as possible”, the interface changes with the situation. A missing fresh estimate is not replaced by an overly optimistic promise.
What the guest gains
- a clear choice between pickup and delivery;
- a time estimate connected to the selected basket;
- only genuinely available ordering options;
- a final time check before confirmation;
- truthful stages after the order is placed;
- one consistent experience in Estonian, Russian and English.
We continue to develop the system, but its central principle stays the same: technology should reduce uncertainty instead of adding another complicated screen.
